Chapter 7
In the same dark room, in the same dark building, the same pair of dark figures are conversing once more. they stood between the dark shapes of desks and chairs, the room chosen for privacy alone, the only light a shimmer of reflection through the heavy curtains.
"We have found trace of him, sir, although he still evades our detection directly."
"Still, this is progress. Must not a dog smell a scent before he can taste a meal?"
"That is true, father, but this is not a dog. and those traces... They have more in common with vandalism than smell... He has achieved a partial understanding of the data."
At the, the larger shape seemed to grow, its bulk towering over the smaller shape, which seemed to cower in fear. "WHAT? HE HAS BEEN ALLOWED -" The larger man stopped here, becoming aware of his loss of composure.
"I am sorry for my anger son. But, you must understand this should not have happened. We are guilty of overconfidence, however our saving grace is that whilst that overconfidence may show a lack of grace, but at least the confidence is well justified."
"Father, there is more. He has deciphered enough information that he has been able to report the illegality of our research to the news."
As the smaller figure said this, it seemed to shrink away from the other. The larger figure simply stood still, his hands placed firmly on the desk beside him, as the large man tried to retain his composure. The desk was a heavy affair with three lockable drawers. After a moment, just as the smaller firgure seemed to relax a little in the hope an outburst had been avoided, the larger figure exploded. the sound issued forth from his mouth contained no words, and expressed rage in a simple guttural format. His hands that had rested on the heavy desk slipped their tips under the edge, and with a bulge of the ample biceps possessed by the imposing shadow of a man, a desk that may have entered the room with the support of two strong men, was instantly flipped into the air, turning over twice before landing atop another similar desk, and cascading sideways into the exterior window, passing through the curtain and smashing the glass. The desk had slide a little towards the possibility of a long drop, but stopped when its under surface ground against the metal of the frame.
The large man stood quietly, the only sounds issued forth were that of the big shadow's heavy breathing.
"This means one thing. We have no time left. We must get to work."
